At West Boulevard Veterinary Clinic, we believe that when work and pleasure blend, life is truly good! Our clinic thrives thanks to an excellent team handling both medical and business aspects, with a structure centered around the well-being of pets in our care.
Our comprehensive team includes four veterinarians (two full-time and two part-time), a Registered Animal Health Technician, a full-time Veterinary Office Assistant, two part-time VOA graduates, and dedicated part-time student staff. We also maintain access to Board Certified Veterinary Specialists who visit as needed, and collaborate with the Canada West Veterinary Specialist and Critical Care Group and Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic.
Holding an Honours B.Sc. and Diploma of Education from UBC, Dr. Potter completed her veterinary training at Cambridge University, graduating with a B.A./BVetMed in 1977. Though initially interested in both equine and small animal medicine, a back injury redirected her focus to small animal care. In 1998, she expanded her expertise by completing the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society's program in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, allowing her to offer an integrated approach to veterinary care. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Potter manages a bustling household with four children and various animals including dogs, cats, birds, fish, ponies, and horses. Her personal interests include sailing, kayaking, gardening, art appreciation, and most recently, beekeeping.
With an Honours degree in Physiology from UBC and a veterinary degree from Western College of Veterinary Medicine (2008), Dr. Rurak brings particular expertise in surgery and internal medicine. As Dr. Potter's daughter, she has been connected with the clinic since birth and has led expansions in small patient medicine. Dr. Rurak shares her home with her husband Ben (an enthusiastic birder), three dogs, six cats, and a hamster. When not caring for her human and animal family, she enjoys gardening and classic musical films.
After completing her pre-veterinary requirements at UBC, Dr. Kutney graduated from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. Her connection to the clinic began during veterinary school when she worked as a student staff member, joining the team as a veterinarian upon graduation. She shares her home with her husband Joe, son Evan, dog Fiasca, and cat Lorenzo, while fostering additional animals with her mother's help. Dr. Kutney maintains diverse interests outside work, regularly pursuing new skills through night courses ranging from travel to creative writing and dancing.
Dr. Beattie's journey with the clinic began as a volunteer before progressing to veterinary assistant while completing her Honours degree in Animal Biology at UBC. After graduating from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024, she joined as a full veterinarian. With a passion for all small animals and special interest in rabbits, Dr. Beattie enjoys creative writing, hiking, and starting (though rarely finishing) sewing projects in her free time. She lives with her partner Bryan and her rabbit Charlotte, who required numerous treats to pose for her professional photo.
